The Quiet Bar
Often described as the Best Bar in Britain, the Quiet Bar at The Quiet Site offers a truly unique atmosphere. Set within ancient stone walls and warmed by a huge log fire, it’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and swap stories from the day’s adventures.
The heart
of the Quiet Site
The original building dates back to the early 16th century and is attached to the farmhouse in the traditional Cumbrian long barn style. The barn was rebuilt in 1680 and again in 1752, before being converted into a bar in 1963. Over the last decade, the bar has undergone major renovations, including a new roof and floor, two handcrafted oak balconies, and luxurious 5-star toilet facilities — all carefully designed to preserve its historic charm.
There is also a separate playroom featuring table football, air hockey, and pool, making the bar a welcoming space for all ages.
Delicious and fresh, home-made stone-baked pizza is available every night of the year from The Quiet Bite, just a few steps from The Quiet Bar.
Adjacent to the bar is a large meeting room available free of charge to local groups and charities. It is also opens to show live sporting events on its large TV.
The bar is open every day of the year from 4pm to 10pm, welcoming both guests and visitors. Live music is featured at least once a week, usually on a Sunday, adding to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
We offer a carefully selected range of beers, led by ales brewed locally at Tirril Brewery, including Ullswater Blonde, Premium Pilsner, and our very own brew — The Quiet Pint — an ale guaranteed to satisfy even the hardest of fell walkers. The Quiet Pint is also available to purchase from our site shop. Cider is also available on tap.
Our spirits selection proudly showcases locally distilled favourites, including:
Lakes Gingerbread Vodka, Sticky Toffee Pudding Rum, Herdwick Gin, Kendal Mint Cake Vodka, Rhubarb Gin, Elderflower Gin, Sloe Gin, and Lakes Vodka.
